Unspoilt Similan Islands

Along the Andaman Sea to the west of Southern Thailand, lie hundreds of unspoilt sandy beach islands.  One of them is a group of nine islands called Similan Islands.  "Sembilan" is "nine" in the Malay Language.  These islands are approximately 100 km northwest of Phuket.  In 1982, this group of islands was declared a marine national park to protect its pristine environment.  Boats entering these islands have to follow strict rules imposed by park officials including the use of closed water systems to avoid pollution.

There are no permanent inhabitants on these islands except for the park rangers and some caretakers.  These islands have natural long white coral sand beaches, crystal clear blue waters with a huge variety of marine life.  The Similan Islands may be visited in one day, overnight or on tours.  However there is no resort stay on the islands except for a few ranger stations and a few bungalows for rent.  Most visitors settle for a day trip via modern speed boats. Snorkelling and scuba diving of course top the list of activities there.  But on land too, one can also enjoy bird watching.

Please note: The Similan Islands National Park is closed to all access from May 15th to November 1st each year.  This is due to weather conditions.

Welcome to Paradise!
