Right time to eat fruits
What is the right time to eat fruits? Is there such a thing of eating fruits at the right time? From my own preference I seldom eat fruits immediately after my meal. Two reasons for this. First, I would feel the fullness in my stomach and not having any space for the fruits. Secondly, whenever I ate fruits immediately after a full meal, I would not feel comfortable for the first reason that my stomach was too full to accommodate the fruits. So I always eat fruits only when my stomach has digested all the food that I took.
Everyone knows the importance of daily fruit intake. Fruits provide us with all the vitamins and minerals that we need to sustain a healthy life. Different types of fruits have different amount of vitamins and minerals. It is essential that we eat a good variety of fruits. Not getting into technical details, just choose your favorite fruits, and you should have sufficient nutrients for a healthy body. For me I usually take bananas, pineapples, and papayas. These three types of fruits form my base supply of healthy nutrients. Of course there are also apples, oranges, pears, kiwifruits, mangoes, watermelons and our local exotic tropical fruits like durians, mangosteens, rambutans, chiku, umbra, guava and even passion fruits and pomegranates and many others! I have very sweet chikus in my garden. Other fruit trees in my garden are nutmeg, longan, sour soup, umbra, mango, pomegranate, grape, and passion fruit.

Eat fruits on an empty stomach
Lately there is this viral email about eating fruits at the right time. I was indeed very happy to find that what was written was in accordance with my personal routine of eating fruits only when my stomach has digested all the food. This email stated that we should eat fruits on an empty stomach. The reason is this. While you have a full stomach, the food has to be digested with the digestive juices. During this process of digesting, there is no room for fruits. If fruits are taken, they are not able to get digested as they are blocked by the digesting food. Once the fruits come into contact with the food in the stomach, they get spoilt before they can be digested. It is for this reason that some people burp, or having a bloated stomach. For severe cases, there would be the urge to visit the toilet!
Apparently, if you eat fruits on an empty stomach you will not have graying hair, balding problem, nervous outburst and dark circles under the eyes. If you follow this advice, you will enjoy the " secret of beauty, longetivity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight". Well, this was what the viral email has assured. Personally, I think this claim is a bit farfetched.
As a reminder, always eat fresh fruits.
Don't drink cold water after meal
On an unrelated topic the viral email reminded and warned us not to drink cold water after a meal. The cold water will solidify the oily foods, slowing down digestion. Once this “sludge” reacts with the acid in the stomach, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. After a prolonged period, this will turn into fats and may lead to cancer. It is recommended that we always drink warm water after each meal. I am not sure whether this is true medically. As far as I understand, whatever that is inside the stomach will be maintained at a set temperature before the food is passed throught he intestine; which means even cold water in the stomach will eventually have the same temperature with the rest of the food in the stomach.
Good news for me again, as I always drink warm water after each meal. I never drink cold water after a meal, not for the above reason, but I just feel that warm water is better for my system. I feel that since the food in the stomach is at a warmer temperature, it is not a good idea to pour cold water on it.
In the final analysis, it is up to you whether you think the above advice is worth taking note of, and to follow if possible. The choice is yours.

Hi Good Guy,
I used to always eat fruits after my meals (a substitute for dessert) but I've stopped doing that since I was advised about this by someone on a macrobiotic diet. So it was interesting to read about the same thing here. Interesting that it can prevent dark circles around the eyes!! I will stick to eating fruits on an empty stomach from now on.
Thanks again Good Guy. Following this one too.
I think we need to eat every day fruit. Not to much of course but you know for example 1 apple a day

I didn't know that about cold water and meal eating. I usually have a glass of cold water before and after a meal. I'll have to work on drinking the after glass in less frigid temperatures. Smile!
