Natural cure for loose stool

This article is about natural cure for loose stool. Please note loose stool is different from diarrhea. I have also written an article on “How to stop diarrhea”. Loose stool syndrome is a minor personal irritant, and is not a serious health problem. Otherwise I would be dead by now. As far as I can remember, throughout my adult life I consistently have loose stool. I just accepted it as a peculiar inconvenience to my daily life. The only inconvenience is that I take a longer time to finish the job; and sometimes I need to go more than once a day. Another occasional problem is the urge to go to the toilet again immediately after finishing the business. Apart from this, I am ok. If you have this urge to repeatedly going to the toilet, then you may like to read my article "Benefits of noni juice".

I did not believe then that there was any natural cure for loose stool, until recently when I surfed the internet, looking for natural cure for loose stool. This is the wonder of the internet. I found a few “natural cures” when I Googled “natural cure for loose stool”. There was one which I particularly like. I shall share with you here.

Natural cure for loose stool using pomegranate rind

This natural cure for loose stool is with the use of pomegranate rind. This recipe is from an Ayurvedic site from India. Pomegranate aril juice is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B5, and natural phenols such as ellagitannins and flavonoids. By the way, this fruit is peculiar in itself, as it doesn’t have the usual fleshy part. The juice comes from the aril, the fleshy part covering the seeds. The pomegranate rind is traditionally used in Ayurvedic treatment for diarrhea, dysentery and intestinal parasites. The seeds and aril juice are good for the heart and throat. And believe it or not, certain strains of pomegranate juice is also used as eyedrops to slow down cataract development.

I like this natural cure for loose stool using pomegranate rind because I have a pomegranate tree in my garden. The tree is a bit mediocre as you can see from the photo on the right. Occasionally it bears fruits, equally mediocre in size. But this treatment only requires the pomegranate rind. So it is just right for the purpose. There happened to have one solitary fruit on my pomegranate tree. The fruit was quite small. After enjoying the aril juice, I managed to cut the rind into 9 pieces. As the recipe required 4 pieces, I was able to have only two trials.

During the first trial, I reacted adversely with slight diarrhea. Undaunted, as I was used to experimentation with natural cures, I tried the second time. The result was a non event. But psychologically, I think my stool is not that loose now. (LOL) As pomegranate in our country is very expensive, I shall wait for my next harvest to further experiment with it. I shall update my progress when I have the chance to try the treatment again in the near future. Right now the fruits are very tiny as you can see from the photo on the right. I think I have great confidence in its efficacy if I tried more times. By the way, the potion is a bit bitter, but palatable. The recipe allows sugar to be added. But I chose the natural way. I drank it without added sugar.

This is the recipe:

1. Put 4 pieces of dried pomegranate rind in a pot. (Note: I used fresh rind)

2. Add two cups of water and put to boil.

3. Continue boiling in medium heat until ½ cup of water remains. (I boiled it for 30 minutes)

4. Discard the rind, and let the liquid cool.

Pomegranate rind from Spain

A personal disappointment

I have the "never give up" attitude. My sister brought a few pieces of the pomegranate rind all the way from England for me to try out. I believe the fruit came from Spain. So I gave it another try. Sorry, not effective on me. Not to give up, I went to the supermarket to buy another one, also from Spain. The rind was thinner than that from my garden. What a disappointment again; it didn't work for me. Well, you win some, lose some. Elsewhere, I have written that a good cure might not work for certain people. I hope this treatment works for you.

On the positive side, I found something great about pomegranate. All this while, I thought that pomegranate had very tough seeds which were definitely unpalatable. That was true of my local garden variety. When I tried the one from Spain, I was pleasantly surprised that the seeds were so soft that they could be eaten! No wonder in Turkey, they have the popular freshly pressed pomegranate juice! Now imported pomegranate has become one of my favorite fruits!
