Life Is Not A Destination

I like to share information that makes life more joyful and meaningful. My main interests are health and general wellness in body and mind.

The tapestry of life.

How often we wish that we have arrived. Our desire is to have all our wishes come true. Then our lives will be perfect, and we will be very happy. We worked and saved to see the day that we no longer have to toil. Then we will be very happy. It's funny though, when we have all the energy and time, we have not enough money. When we still have the energy and the money, we have no time. And when we have all the time and money, we have no more energy! This is life's vicious cycle. This is life's greatest tragedy. I am past 60 and I am very mindful of not falling into this trap. I said to myself, no matter what, I shall not wait any more to tour the world once I reach 65. I personally feel that past 65, there will not be much time left. So I shall live life as best I can once I reach 65.

You see, when we were very young, we were full of energy and had plenty of time to spare. But we had not enough money to spend. Holidays abroad or buying the latest gadgets were just a pipe dream. Then we started our career and had families of our own, we still had the energy and a bit more money, but we had no time to enjoy ourselves. Time was preciously spent on making more money, and taking good care of the growing children.

Now that our children have grown up, and we would have accumulated a comfortable nest egg, it is time that we should take it easy and go see the world and enjoy ourselves. For the first many years we had the time, the money and the energy. How great life is! However, it will come a time when our muscles will start to ache at every movement. We have the time and the money, but no more energy! This is the sad tapestry of life.

Today is the day of the rest of your life.

Life is a journey.

We live each day with dreams and hopes. Very seldom we live for the day. It is always about yesterdays and tomorrows. Yesterdays are dead and gone. Tomorrows never come. We take life to be a destination, that one day we will arrive, and all will be well. When we arrived, we are dead! Nothing to look forward anymore. Mission completion.

Life is a journey. A journey to experience happiness and despair, the ups and downs, the excitement and the dull moments, the duality of life. Learn from this journey, enjoy the sights and sounds of the present moment, instead of waiting for something "better" to happen tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after next. It will never come.

"Today is the first day of the rest of your life", as you can read from the poster on the right. Start living life today, everyday. Don't waste your time regretting about yesterdays, or dreaming of the days yet to come. Yesterday is dead and gone, and tomorrow never come.

Update To My Life's Journey

After writing this article, a lot had happened to my life. This year, 2016, I am 66 years old. Past my target year of "seeing the world" before my body says "No". I was not and still am not waiting for a perfect time. As I wrote "the perfect" time will never come. Unfortunately for me, heart-wreching incidents have so far prevented me from fulfilling my dream of "seeing the world". Let me just leave it as a temporary personal problem. Hope the time will come when I will have the money and better frame of mind to "see the world". Another hurdle is that I have yet to meet a comfortable travelling companion.

Perhaps one unfortunate incident I can share here, as I have written two articles on it. Please "click here" to read.
