The Queen Of Fruits

Source

Mangosteen juice. Mangosteen, the queen of fruits.

Mangosteen is the queen of fruits. That brings us to ask ; which then is the king of fruits? And what would be their relationship? The answer is at the end of this article with the relevent link.

And another thing, mangosteen is not related to mango, for sure. The flesh does not contain a lot of juice. To add to the difficult task, the seeds are usually big and very bitter. As such, to extract mangosteen juice is a painstaking process. And this has become a very big business for the big boys, processing and packaging mangosteen juice on a commercial scale.

Mangosteen is a tropical fruit, slightly smaller than the size of a tennis ball and is dark purplish in colour. Mangosteen is found mainly in South-east Asia. For we locals, there is no such thing as mangosteen juice. We simply eat the fruit fresh!! We are indeed a lucky lot.

The most important fact on mangosteen is that it contains ,especially in the rind or pericarp, a very powerful antioxidant called xanthone which fights infection, fungus, bacteria, osteoporosis, arthritis and even cancer.

The taste of mangosteen is very difficult to describe, as it has no comparison. So I shall leave it to your imagination! What I can say is that it is indescribably exotic! The flesh is pure white, exquisite! All the writings won't help you to know the taste and look of a mangosteen. You just have to look at one and also actually taste one. Well, over here you can't have the taste, but you can enjoy the videos.

How to open a mangosteen

A lot of tropical fruits have unusual shapes and strange textures from hairy to thorny. The first impression is, "how do I open it?" This in itself is a challenge. Even the term "open" is not correct. What about "peel?" Still the wrong term. Never mind. How do you open up a mangosteen? There are different ways. I shall not venture to describe in words. What better way than to present them in videos and in pictures. So, enjoy the videos.

One very peculiar feature of a mangosteen is that at the base of the fruit, a circular "flower" pattern tells you the number of cloves of the flesh inside the fruit. The numbers vary usually between 5 and 7. And be careful not to let the sap of the rind stain your dress; it will be a permanent impress!

Island paradise with exotic fruits

I am very fortunate to be born, bred and to retire on this peaceful, sunny tropical island paradise called Penang. On this island you will find many exotic fruits of the highest quality. The durians, the king of fruits, are of the best quality in the world. And on this island you will also get to enjoy the purest coconut water.
