Cure for anal fistula

I have been procrastinating writing this article on cure for anal fistula. From my research in the internet, apparently there is no oral cure for anal fistula, except surgery. I procrastinated because I didn’t think anyone would believe me, that there is a simple oral cure for anal fistula. What I am going to describe is from my personal experience; how I cured myself of anal fistula by using a very simple oral method. Yes, there is a cure for anal fistula without surgery. At least this worked for me. As for you, I don’t know.

A glass of milk

What is anal fistula?

An anal fistula originates from one of the anal glands which drain into the anal canal. If the outlet of these glands becomes blocked, an abscess can develop on the skin surface near the anus. An anal fistula is the small channel that develops between the end of the anal canal and the skin around the anus. On the surface of the skin around the anus, one or more of the fistula ends may appear as minute holes . The area around these holes will appear swollen. An anal fistula usually develops after an anal abscess bursts, usually with pus.

Anal fistula is painful and may cause bleeding and discharge, especially when passing stools. In my case every step I took, caused pain around the anus.

How I cured my anal fistula

As far as I know, the only medical method to cure anal fistula is by surgery. But the risk of the anal fistula recurring is about 20%. And in my case, after surgery it resurfaced.

What I am going to share with you now was my personal experience in my treatment for anal fistula. The only assurance I can give you is that this is a true account of my own experience. Whether it will work for others, I don’t know. I don’t know any scientific or medical explanation for my success. What I am sure is that this simple method cured my anal fistula. Anyone can try this method. This I can say; I don’t think there is any harm trying, for the ingredients used are just common items.

Curing anal fistula with ghee and milk.

When my anal fistula resurfaced after surgery, a friend took me to this person who purportedly had cured many of such ailment. This person gave me a powdered medication which I was to take only a wee bit twice a day, once first thing in the morning, and again before going to bed. The prescription was to take a tiny bit of this powder, put it on a spoonful of ghee, and swallow it followed by drinking a glass of warm milk. I have forgotten the duration for this prescription, but after a while the anal fistula was gone!

Unfortunately, after a prolonged period, the anal fistula again resurfaced. I was desperate to find a cure. I was not able to locate that person who supplied me the medication powder. As if some “intelligence” had led me to think. Could it be the powder was just a placebo? As I only put in a tiny bit, smaller than a small raisin. Maybe the ghee was the real substance that cured my fistula!

I decided to give it a try. I followed the same instruction, only this time without the powder. I have forgotten how long I followed the prescription. The swollen area subsided, and after a period I could feel a small hardened pea-sized protrusion at the tip of the fistula. Then one day I tried to squeeze it out like squeezing out a “black-head” from one’s face. To my surprise, it came out. And ever since that day I did not have any recurrent of the anal fistula. Well, believe it or not; it’s up to you.

On the premise that if it worked for me, it should work for at least another person. Even if only one person gets cured by following my method, I will be happy that I make the right decision to share this information in the internet.

The method that cured my anal fistula

Follow the two simple steps below twice a day, first thing in the morning and the second time before going to bed at night. As I said, I have forgotten for how long I took the prescription. So as a rule of thumb, do it for 2 weeks or until the jar of ghee is finished, whichever comes first. You just need to get a jar of ghee about 250gm or 9 oz.

Step 1. Scoop a tablespoon of ghee and swallow it.

Step 2. Then drink a glass of warm milk.

I have been melting the ghee in warm milk for the last week following your instructions. After the first 3 days the fistula swelling and drainage has stopped! Thanks so much for this info.

What is ghee?

Ghee is popularly used for cooking in India. Ghee is clarified butter after boiling away the water content and scooping out the solid milk particles. For more information on ghee, please go to this wikipedia link.

You should be able to get ghee from any Asian grocery store. Failing which, you can make your own ghee. Just follow the Youtube videos below

Hi Tom,

Mine had only one opening. Hope you and Rk get well.

tom 7 weeks ago

RK

if pus is dry up, then it is a good sight, the fistula must dry up, and no more pus come out, so that the doctor can move to the next step which is to close up both primary opening and secondary opening. That is my case, I don't know how many opening are there with you. If you only have one opening, then I think doctor call it an abscess. I wish that my fistula can dry up and no more pus come out, then I will get cure.

Very encouraged after reading the posts. I have a small mass boil near the back end llip of anus. Which is red and painful. Once it bursts, pain finishes. However I see a lot of puss greenish yellow coming from this mass and also noted that the same puss has covered my anus looks like that it has come from inside the anus. I have external piles too but no pain so far from Piles except when I have spicy food. Will try the Ghee + Milk as told and keep posted on the progress. Any suggestion(s) from valued members and moderator will be appreciated.

hi RK

did you have fistula or abscess? do you have a tunnel from rectum to outer skin? is it like a you have 2 openning? one from rectum and the other from butt skin? in my case, I have fistula which is a tunnel going from my rectum to my outer skin nearby my butt skin.

Ahmed, I think you have abscess, if you decide to have surgery make sure you go to colon rectum specialist so that when they surgery they do the right thing otherwise it will become fistula which will be more complicated. just like mine.

Ahmed Jan 7 weeks ago

Dear Tom,

Thank you for responding promptly and clarifying about my situation. The surgeon whom I showed says it is Fistula ano. However I do not see any hole or tunnel. It is small rough red surface. Once burst, blood comes followed by yellow greenish pus drops and redness of area finishes. However later I notice that sticky type pus or mucous sorrounds all rectum /anus area. I am on homeopathy but they say it will take 2 years or so. I can share pictures for advice. Thank you for support.

Hi guys I'm very reluctant to go for surgery again. Have my fistula now for two years. Stayed away from the doctor after three surgeries because the seton that was placed in for drainage made it worse for me in terms of pain and swelling. I will be trying this ghee remedy. Hope it helps me.

tom 5 weeks ago

I tried the Ghee and Mild, but it did not work for me, I guess in my case, I have fistula and it did not work.

Ahmad: I think you have abscess and after surgery abscess should be close up in 4 to 6 years. Did the doctor put seton or something in the abscess? In my case, I have a seton which is the rubber thread that goes from primary opening to secondary opening to keep the tunnel open for drainage. this is my email address, in case you want to email picture: pfg1888@yahoo.com. please put fistula on subject line so I know it is you.

I almost run out of hope, I just have a 7 surgeries last week, this time the doctor open it up bigger, crape out the cavity, blood and puss came out alot, but I don't know if this work as well as my doctor. No answer but to cross my finger. If this time it does not work, I may have to go to India for Kshar Sutra treatment which seem very promising to me? If any of you like to join me, please contact me so that we may make a trip together since I know nothing about India?

thanks

Hey Clinton:

I think you should do alot of sit bath in warm to hot water, it helps alot. After the 7 surgery, I was in extremely pain. I do alot of sit bath and epsom salt. It helps me so much, now I am not in pain any more. I would say, you can do sit bath as many as you need it to reduce the pain. In my case, It is even better than take vicodine. Hope it will help your pain.

Clinton 4 weeks ago

Hi tom, I've been doing the sitz bath all the time. Problem is that the moment I get out of the bath, does the nightmare begin for me in terms of pain. It burns, have a mucus-like discharge from the secondary fistula opening, itching and worst of all I feel like I wanna curl up into a corner and die. I'm a 28 year old and work as a Chef and this fistula has ruined my life literally. My wife refuses to sleep with me unless I take a bath first and clean myself up. Secondly, when it's busy times at the restaurant I work at then I have to retreat to the bathroom cause I've noticed that sitting on the loo alleviates pain. I guess it has something to do with there being no pressure on the wound. When i walk it's a nightmare, picking up pots or carrying things around is a mission for me because at the end of my shift I can barely walk. I snap at friends and family because I'm always morbid as a result of this issue. I'm tired of it. Seriously. I'm willing to welcome any help or advice since my doctors only talk about placing a seton in and clearing the abscess. I'm fed up because the supposedly "specialists" don't know how to treat this fistula. Apparently it's too high up the anal canal for them and any surgery will damage my sphincter muscles. So I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. I attend Groote Schuur Hospital, why they can't help me I really don't know. We bloody did the first heart transplant at this hospital! Come on! Sorry for lashing out but I just want this nightmare to end.

Krazy world. 4 weeks ago

TOM 4 weeks ago

clinton, I have a seton just like you, but I feel no pain at all. I don't really know why you are in pain. When was your last surgery? The first week after my surgery, I feel alot of pain, I take vicodine for 2 days, after that I just eat up the pain. After 7 days, there is no more pain for me. I don't really know why there is still pain for you. The seton is to make sure that the tunnel is keep opening for drainage and settle down. According to my doctor, fistula is like a piercing, we must let it heal from the inside, no more infection before doctor can stick up and close both opening. In my case, there is still infection and puss still come out, so there is nothing doctor can do at this time. I am still waiting for my fistula to dry up so that my doctor can move to next step. Be honest with you, after 7 surgeries, I run out of hope, don't think western medicine can help my fistula. I read alot on India, where they used medication thread, just like we have a seton (you can google youtube online), it seem pretty safe and promising. I really want to go there for treatment. If you decide to go, maybe we can hook up and meet over there, according to doctor in india, they guarantee me 100% cure. Sound so good, I can't turn down this promise. I will try western medicine (surgery) here for few more months, but if it still not cure, I will go to India, same like you, I can not live like this for ever. Just for curiosity, how much puss does come out from your secondary opening for given 8 hours. Mine are very little, just like a size of regular bandage some time less and no smell at all. Why your wife make a big deal, when this is a sickness that no one want to have. My wife very support me, she help me alot, help me change gaze if I need to, she help me with warm water, cloths. All my family support me. They take me to doctor, cheer me up and support me whenever I need. I hope you will get support from your family. More than ever, now is time, we need their help, otherwise, what is family for?

Hi Clinton it is me again:

When you said Swelling, you mean the secondary opening? how big is your secondary opening? when you said swelling did you mean a secondary opening swell up, like a little bubble swell up? if it is what I think it it, then yes it will hurt, what my doctor did, she poke it to break it, so that i wont feel pain again. How often you go see your doctor?

Hi Tom,

I find myself in a very unfortunate situation in that I had pain before, during and after seton placement surgery. I cant tell you with certainty as to why exactly theres such a lot of pain. Let me give you a brief history of this issue:

1. December 2009 I went for a haemorroid sugery.

2. March 2010 I developed a massive swelling and hardenening of tmyleft buttock.

3. After doing research on my symptoms I went to my doctor's office and was referred to a specialist.

4. I saw the specialist and he confirmed that i had a fistula with abscess.

5. June 2010 I have seton surgery. This turned out to be nightmare of a time for me as I was under alot of pain post-operation. I consequently lost my job due to non-performance since the pain was just too much to bare.

6. August 2010 I'm scheduled for follow-up surgery by the specialist to try and fix the fisula. This process is known as a fisulectomy I think. (I speak under correction)

7. The specialist at victoria hospital refers me to Groote Schuur since he feels he does not have the necessary equipment to follow through with the surgery.

8. Not long after this the initial seton breaks and I'm left with no seton.

9. September 2010 i'm scheduled for surgery again.

10. The surgery was a success according to the doctors at Groote Schuur. They apparently inserted some sort of cutting seton and plug thing. I have no idea what it is.

Now during all this time of surgeries and doctor's visits i'm not working.this placed alot of pressure on my relationship. I eventually got a job at the beginning of 2011 and subsequent visits only resulted in doctors monitoring my secondary wound and how it is supposedly healing.

Last year my second seton breaks off and im told that they want to do seton surgery again.Im furious since my life has been put on hold cuase of this issue.

I subsequently ditched the scheduled december 2011 surgery since pain without the seton is more "manageable" than pain with the seton in place. I have not seen the doctor for 7 months because i feel im left to my own devices with this debilitating illness. They cant prescribe me any antibiotics since they believe that the antibiotics does not penetrate the abscess, even thogh when my private doctor prescribed me antibiotics it did the world of good for me in terms of alleviating the pain.

I've also resorted to buying my own combination of pain drugs from the pharmacy because the specialist only wants to prescribe me paracetomol. In america you guys use asprin which in south africa is stronger than paracetomol.

Im currently using my own mix of paracetomol. codein and ibuprofen from a chemist friend i know.

I doplan to do follow up visits to the specialist soon but im not very hopeful of them being able to come up with any kind solutions just yet.

I also doubt that the ghee and hot milk recipe will fix this issue but since western medicine has failed me im more than willing to give it a shot.

been using it for 3 days and no real noteworhty changes in pain. ill keep you guys updated.

Thanks

I think the bad part of all this is that Doctor can not tell us how and when the fistula will be healed. Each and every one of them (doctors) have their own way of treating this sickness. In your case, i guess they used cutting seton and it cut through the Sphincter muscle, and that may cause alot of pain. I am very scare to do cutting seton, because I afraid it may damage my muscle and incompetent may happen.

Hey Clinton, what do you think of India (Kshar Sutra) treatment? I contact a review person name Karen from Seattle Washington, According to her, it is the best treatment she had received and it cures her fistula. Would you like to contact her and talk to her to get a feel of it? See if it worth to pursue this treatment over there? I am a very busy person, working 7 days a week, I own my own company, I love what I do, but now since this sickness, it makes me think twice about my life. Our health is more important than any thing. If we can fix this problem, it is not worth it to do anything else. I feel for you Clinton. you are not alone man.

A fistula, as we all knows is an abnormal passage leading from one internal cavity to another or to the surface. It is either lined with mucosal membrane or may be lined with epithelium. Nearly all anal fistulas are results of an infection of the anal glands that traveled down the intersphincteric plane to form a draining perianal abscess. These abscesses may drain in any direction and in any planes thus giving rise to different kinds of fistulas.

The classification of fistulas according to modern surgery has been done on the bases of the paths taken by the fistulous track.

Subcutaneous, Low Intersphincteric, Transphincteric, Trans or Suprasphincteric with high blind intralevator extension, & Extra sphincteric.

Classification is also done on the bases of the complexity of the tracks themselves i.e. depending upon the number of opening in the bowel or externally. The simple fistulas have a single track with just one external and one internal opening where as the more complex types have more than one track. Rarely we find fistulas with one external opening and one track initially, which bifurcates inside giving rise to multiple internal openings. Sometimes we find fistulas with a number of external openings and multiple tracks leading to one or more openings internally.

What we are about to discuss here is the treatment/procedure to be followed in the comparatively more complex and more complicated types of fistulas. Extremely complex fistulas are nearly always caused by the mishandling of a simple fistula by a surgeon who did not understand the anatomy of the area and misdiagnosed the type of abscess-fistula complex. Some however develop due to neglect on the part of the patient and allowing long periods to elapse before approaching a proper doctor.

The procedure in discussion here is an excellent combination of the conventional type of surgery i.e. Fistulectomy and the age-old Kshar-Sutra ligation procedure, very well-known amongst present Ayurvedists. It is usually preferred in high anal transphincteric fistulas or fistulas involving the ischeo rectal fossa. Also where a single external opening leads to a single track initially and then bifurcates into two or more tracks.

Before discussing the procedure itself and the benefits of the combination let us first see the need for the treatment itself.

Spontaneous healing of anal fistulas, especially complex anal fistulas is practically unheard. If neglected or ill treated fistulas may cause repeated abscesses and ill health and long-standing fistula may eventually lead to malignant disease. I have never seen in my practice of 14 years, a really chronic fistula, especially one of the complete varieties with a thick fibrous wall lining its track, self healing or self closing in any way with just conservative treatment.

Indication for this procedure: -

Different fistulas are treated in different ways by both, the followers of the modern medical science as well as Ayurvedists. Surgeons of the modern medical science prefer Fistulectomy. This sometimes, especially in the complex types, is performed in two or more steps interspaced by duration of few weeks. Ayurvedists however prefer Kshar-Sutra ligation in all types of fistulas irrespective of the position of the external opening and the course, the complexity and length of the tracks and weather the fistulous track is single or multiple.

We have chosen this combination mainly for the following types of fistulas-

High anal Trans-sphincteric fistulas

Horse-Shoe fistula

High anal supra-sphincteric fistulas

In fistulas with multiple external openings and with tracks communicating with each other.

The combination is preferred to avail of the benefits of both the methods and is planned in such a way that the two methods are applied to the parts of the fistulous track where they are best suited. That is, Fistulectomy is preferred for the external part of the track where as Kshar-Sutra ligation for the interior portion of the track or where the sphincteric muscles are involved.

We discuss here the application of partial Fistulectomy with Kshar-Sutra ligation in one of the most complicated forms of anal fistulas i.e. The Horse shoe Fistula. As the name suggests the fistulous track in a Horse shoe fistula resembles the shape of horse shoe.

The main track of an ischiorectal fistula follows the roof of the ischiorectal fossa i.e. it lies on the under surface of the Puborectalis muscle. The track is therefore of horse shoe shape, if both sides are involved, with the anterior extension on each side passing deep to the transverse perineal muscle. The communication with the anal canal is most frequently in the mid line posteriorly but not invariably so. The track leading to the external opening on the skin is usually a vertical track which may descend from any part of the main one.

Diagnosis: -

Inspection of the anal region will usually reveal an external opening or openings. A single opening is more common. Sometimes the opening may be temporarily healed and may be detected only when the surrounding skin is palpated or lightly pressed and pus escapes from the opening. Now, a careful palpation of the perianal region is performed. The position of the external opening and the palpation of the perianal region may give some indication of the possible course of the track. Horse shoe fistulas however are usually impalpable in the perianal region because of their high position relative to the anal canal. Now, a per/rectal digital examination (P/R) is performed. Palpation of the anal canal may reveal an area of induration or the actual internal opening. P/R is of prime importance in diagnosing a horse shoe fistula. The track of a posterior horse shoe fistula lies close along the Puborectalis sling and hence is felt very distinctly as a thick horizontal rod of induration on one or the both sides (as the case may be) and posteriorly at or just above the level of the anorectal ring. This can be palpated and distinguished more perfectly when the horse shoe fistula is unilateral i.e. incomplete, because the palpation of the two sides reveals a striking difference. Sometimes in inexperienced hands a complete horse shoe fistula, is missed as the symmetrical posterior and lateral induration gives a feeling similar to that of an abnormally prominent and firm Puborectalis sling.

An internal opening is generally in the midline of the posterior wall of the canal at the level of the anal crypt or even up to or above the anorectal ring is frequently (not always) detected in such fistulas.

It is also very important to access the amount of sphincter musculature that has remained if the patient has undergone previous Ano-rectal procedures.

Probing: -

Probing is advisable only after proper inspection and palpation. Also, probing should be done following the Goodsall’s rule to minimize the risk of hurting the patient by pursuing a faulty direction. A malleable medium sized silver probe is used. The terminal 2.5 to 4 c.m. part should be bent into a slight curve as required to probe a horse shoe fistula. When the probe is passed as far as possible into the fistula, hold it in the position. Now the forefinger of the other hand is inserted into the anal canal.

The examiner will be able to feel the tip of the probe emerging through the internal opening into the anal canal or it may be palpable through the anal or rectal wall separated from the finger by the whole thickness of the wall or by the mucosa. The probe can

you can go to their website www.proctocure.com to check it out. About the cost, Dr Mukul emailed me back and said he charged $3500 to 4500 depend upon the complexity of the fistula? I talked to Karen (a lady from seatle wa) who went to this doctor for treatment, she told me same thing, it is around $4000 US. She told me that she stayed there for 6 weeks. And since april 2011 she did not have any more problem with fistula until now. Yes, it is only a year, hard to say if it is not recurrence again, but at least they able to fix her fistula and it is completed heal. You may want to contact Karen if you may have any question about the treatment in India, she sound very confident and that is what make me want to go there. She told me that, if her children have same problem (fistula) she would not hesitate to send them over immediately without a doubt. Is it sound good when you hear someone say that?

Clinton, if you decide to go, let me know, I want to go to, I am so tired of this, just want to get it over with.

thanks

Hi Tom, thank you for that information. It's much appreciated. It sounds very promising and I'd gladly go for the operation if I could afford it. Their fees are unfortunately too high for me. In South African terms $4000=R40 000 (south african currency converted). A return ticket to India will set me back around R10 000 for a return flight. So to come up with 50k will be a problem for a guy who earns 48k a year as a chef minus taxes. So I'm in a bit of a dilemma if I even wanted to consider this operation. Any suggestions?

Clinton, I think you may contact Dr Mukul and explain to him about how much you make, I am sure he will reduce his fee as he did mention to me once that if you can not afford the fee, he will help you. I am fortunate that I can afford it, but my only problem is I don't have 2 months time to stay in India. I try to make time to go to India, I am currently in middle a project, and it may take me a few months to complete this project. So I guess, I may head overthere after this project. If we meet in India, I may can help you with some such as foods and lodge and local expense. Contact Dr Mukul and let me know if you can make it?

thanks

Hi Tom, thank you for your generous offer to help. What I'll do is contact doctor Mukul and find out what my options are. I'll keep you posted on these developments.

Hi Clinton

so you have a primary opening and secondary opening near anus, right? I think what you have is cutting seton, it cut through your muscle or spincster, and that is why it hurts you alot. In my case, I have loose seton, which is just a rubble thread that keep the tunnel open for drainage, so I dont feel any pain. If the fistula not healing, I don't why they still put you on the cutting seton, but not loosing seton. all you need rigth now is for drainage since cutting seton not help fistula healing at all.

Please contact Dr Mukul ask him about it, maybe he can explain to you what is the best way to have a seton in place to reduce the pain. Also, he may explain to you more about his procedure. Keep me update Clinton

Dear Goodguy

Firstly I thank you for sharing your experience with us. I have recently developed so called fistula. Only yesterday Doctor examined and confirmed that its Low fistula with opening in anus. There is slight puss coming. He had given antibiotics and pain killer that has relived a lot but has finally advised surgery.

I will try your treatment but like to know whether I can take with antibiotics. I take 2 times a day (morning & Time). Whats ur view on it and when should I take.

Thanks again

Hi Iqbal,

Ghee and milk are natural ingredients. I don't think they can cause any harm. There is no reason as I can see, that you can't take the antibiotics at the same time.

I'm going to try this my docter gave me diltiazem/lidocain to put on mine 3 times a day and take miralax everyday. I've had this for 3 yrs and ive been doing this treatment for two month and it doesn't feel like its helping it hurts a little bit but mostly itches intensely. He is wanting to do surgery and I do not want surgery so I hope this works. So i drink warm powder milk after i take the ghee? Thanks. I am hoping this works.

Hi Prax,

Good to know that it is working for you. Different people have different allergies to certain food. Maybe you might want to avoid chicken and the other items that cause the problem.

Please keep us updated, so others will benefit as well.
